The present volume is a collection of papers presented in a Seminar on the Status of Women in Tribal Cultures of Meghalaya sponsored by the North-Eastern Regional Centre of Indian Council of Social Science Research and organised by the Centre for Literary and Cultural Studies, North-Eastern Hill University at Shillong in July 1988. The papers provide informations and insiders' views on the status and role of women in the matrilineal societal context of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo Hills of Meghalaya; both in the traditional structural-institutional set up and in the changing scenario.
